News & Thoughts
Welcome to our new website! It is the middle of February which means we are deep into winter. This time of year is for making plans and also reminiscing about past plans as well. We look forward to having you visit our website from time to time to see what is new with our horses and farm. We do plan to have our Futurity French Command Daughter, Tres Chic, shown this year by Lindsay Perry Atkinson No foals are planned at this time. The mares gathered at the gate is a photo from the past.
Call Me Cool is 3 yrs old. This handsome gelding is in training at Vintage Valley Farm with Lindsay Lindsay Perry Atkinson. He is by MEM Chill Factor and out of Shall We Dance an own daughter of Immortal Command.
This is 5 year old Tres Chic our Futurity French Command daughter out of Tearia. She is a maternal sister to Wicked Cool who is an outstanding winning show horse. We look forward to seeing her in the 2020 show ring under the Vintage Valley Farm banner with Lindsay Perry Atkinson.
Shall We Dance, known as Queen, is a personal favorite. Sired by Immortal Command and out of our own Boogaloo Dancer x Born To Boogie. She has been a treasure from day one. After a short performance career with Suzanne Stone Evans Queen came home to join the broodmare band. She has had but two foals. The first was Java Joe. The second was Call Me Cool. Both inherited her beauty and trust of their people.
Clint was the last foal born here at Brookstone. This coming three year old is handsome, athletic, and offers plenty of size. His sire is no stranger to us, MEM Chill Factor, as he is also the sire of Wicked Cool. His dam was born here and boast a lovely pedigree filled with many of our favorites being by Immortal Command and out of Boogaloo Dancer x Born To Boogie. This youngster is headed off to Vintage Valley Farm for a continuation of his training with Lindsay Perry Atkinson in spring 2020. We look forward to watching his development.
When you are a small Morgan breeder you enjoy seeing planned foals succeed. Wicked Cool, son of MEM Chill Factor and Tearia did not disappoint us as owners and has carried the blue ribbons to his new owner. He makes us proud.
In 1988 we had just purchased our property. I soon purchased a darling beautiful black filly foal from Hartland Morgans. She was bred so beautifully and one of a kind. With UVM Promise and Kadenvale Don as grandsires Sable had a good jr horse show career with Jeff La Due in the pleasure driving division. She then entered the broodmare ranks and gave us four outstanding foals. Later she was purchased by Gail Williamson who used her in carriage driving and she produced one foal for her. Sable was a treasure.
In the early 1990s after our beloved Hartland Sable had her successful show career we bred her. Her first service was to the wonderful stallion bred and owned by Renee Page…..Forevermore. It was a wonderful cross. The resulting colt was Rock N Roll Forever, Rocky, who had a wonderful jr pleasure driving career with his long time trainer and eventual owner, Suzanne Stone Evans. You see by the pictures this Morgan gelding has been an ambassador for the Morgan horse. He has also taught many people to ride and drive. We are proud to have been the breeders.
A number of years ago my late good friend Sue Brander and I decided to create a series of online articles about breeding.—Sort of a breeding ideas 101. We came up with the main character who was to be a young stud learning about mare selection from his old boss mare. We had great fun, learned some ourselves, and had positive response to the cartoon character whose antics were familiar to all breeders especially those with young stallions.
In 1997 a lovely dark chestnut filly was born here. She would be Called Courage To Lead. And this mighty athletic mare became a dominant force in the pony division of National and International CDE sport. Under the training banner of Suzy Stafford and support of her owner, Bev Lesher, the team built a winning record never before accomplished by a Morgan in the early 21st century. We are so proud of Katy.
Java Joe was born after several years of attempts to get his dam, Shall We Dance, in foal. Breeders understand it has to be just right for the mare to conceive. And that she did to the service of Ancan True Colors. The following June this beautiful colt graced our barn with his presence. He was so sweet natured and handsome! He went onto a career in Western Pleasure with many good wins as junior horse followed by successful season with a jr exhibitor. Today he is proudly owned by a new family who are new to Morgans. The story of this young man and Joe Joe is just beginning.
These photos are of Wicked Cool, known to us as Ricky, when he was three days old, three weeks old, three months old, and six months old. He is by MEM Chill Factor and out of our late good mare Tearia. Ricky went onto a terrific jr pl driving career. As a four year old he also won the NYSSA Sweepstakes Class as an English Pleasure Horse. Today he is owned and loved by his lady. They have had much success in the Classic division.
Top left is BKST Touchdown, Back At U, BKST Heavenly Fanfare, and bottom is That Imagene. These youngsters all left the farm before they experienced a show career with us. They went on to be loved by their new people. Looking back is fun!
Winter can be so beautiful in our fields.
